Whilst the last members were signing it, Doctr. FRANKLIN looking towards the Presidents Chair, at the back of which a rising sun happened to be painted, observed to a few members near him, that Painters had found it difficult to distinguish in their art a rising from a setting sun. "I have," said he, "often and often in the course of the Session, and the vicisitudes of my hopes and fears as to its issue, looked at that behind the President without being able to tell whether it was rising or setting: But now at length I have the happiness to know that it is a rising and not a setting Sun."
This is pure poetry and very suttle
ReplyDeleteI'm not so sure rising is the appropriate metaphor here. Scroll down Brad's page a bit, to a chart showing real income has not significantly increased in 40 years. How is it that real income has not gone up despite vast productivity gains?
ReplyDeleteAnswer, the Fed has confiscated the entire productivity gain, and loaned it back to consumers. To make it worse, hedonic adj mean that people can buy a smaller number of items per hour worked (supposedly of higher quality). Retirees on fixed income can buy a lot less per pension.
This one really has deep meaning. Knowing that there is always light in every darkness it is what it meant for me.
ReplyDeleteJust like coping up in a recession that makes the President to good in his administration.:D
